You are registered for the 2023 ADU Academy in Berkeley!
Plan to arrive for registration by 8 am on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Clark Kerr Campus Conference Center, located at 2601 Warring St, Berkeley, CA 94720. Coffee and light fare will be available. The Academy will begin at 8:30am in the Krutch Auditorium.
ADU Academy has been designed with you in mind. There will be two concurrent morning tracks: Design and Real Estate. In the afternoon, there will be two concurrent morning tracks: Build and Finance/Appraisal.
“But, I want to attend both tracks!!”, you declare.
Don’t worry. Read on….
Although you may have a stronger interest in one track over another, we have designed a special format for the day that will ensure all Academy participants gain exposure to all of the Academy’s core curriculum.
Curriculum Design
Here’s how we’re setting it up. If you select the Design workshop, you will receive the instruction from our ADU Design instructor for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. after a 50 minute Executive Overview presentation of the Real Estate curriculum.
Similarly, if you sign up for the Real Estate workshop, you will be receive the instruction from our ADU Real Estate instructors for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes after the Design instructor provides Executive Overview presentation of the Design curriculum for 50 minutes.
No fear of missing out! You’ll get exposed to it all.
The goal is to provide exposure to the core curriculum to all attendees. This approach will ensure that everyone walks away with the Academy’s core content, and that you will be fully equipped for all components of the ADU Specialist Exam.
The Exam to Obtain an ADU Specialist designation
The exam to obtain an ADU Specialist designation will be available online immediately following the Academy for Academy participants. We will be encouraging you to take the exam at 5pm. The exam will have 31 multiple choice questions. You must get a 70% passing grade. It’s an open book exam that you can take on paper at the end of the day, or you can take it online at any time. If you do not pass initial attempt, you may retest later.
Once you’ve obtained the ADU Specialist designation, you can even get an awesome ADU Specialist gift I’ve designed for this occasion. These will only be available to those who pass the ADU Specialist exam.
ADU Topical Breakout Groups
In the afternoon, we’ll be doing deeper dive breakout groups. This is the chance to interact with focused groups around specific detailed elements of those topic areas that will be determined by the interests of the registered attendees prior to the Academy.
Automatic enrollment in the East Bay ADU Tour
As an attendee of the ADU Academy, you are automatically enrolled to attend the self guided First Annual East Bay ADU Tour. ADUs are open from 10 am until 3:00 pm. The Tour Hub at Hammerling Wines will be open from 2:30 pm until 5:00 pm. The ADU Tour Hub will have tables from local ADU professionals as well as an opportunity to tour two model ADUs.

Here’s a Google Map link to the Conference Center. Below is a map of the UC Berkeley conference center on Clark Kerr Campus. There is a paid parking lot to the south of the Auditorium. We will be convening at 8:30 AM in the Krutch Auditorium.
Where to stay
There are a number of hotels close by, primarily located along University Avenue to the West of the main UC Berkeley Campus. The closest accommodations to the venue are the Bancroft Hotel and the The Graduate. There are still a number of AirBnB accommodations available, as well.
Post Academy Social Event
The social event will be held at The Tap Haus at 2518 Durant Ave Ste C, Berkeley, CA 94704 from 5 pm - 7 pm.
If you are driving, the Telegraph - Channing Parking Garage is close by.
